Cost Effective Instrument Marking

FingerPrint Data Systems is pleased to announce the launch of its U-mark Surgical System™, providing healthcare organisations with an inexpensive way to mark and manage surgical devices.

The U-mark system combines the most flexible marking solution available today for medical devices, with fast and accurate scanning technology at a cost to suit all users.

The U-mark System records all instruments marked into a easy to manage inventory that can be quickly imported into any track and trace solution.

Ease of Use:

Unlike existing single instrument marking solutions, U-mark requires only a small investment to get started. With single marks starting from just 3.2mm in diameter, even small surgical devices can be marked.

The U-mark system utilisies KeyDots. These are small, laser-engraved two-dimensional Data Matrix barcode labels that can be applied directly to an instrument’s surface. KeyDot has been thoroughly tested for sterility and biocompatibility and is safe for use on surgical instruments. KeyDot© has been incorporated into most of the instrument tracking software applications available today.

Each user is provided with KeyDots that can be marked with unique serial numbers or with a hospital site’s GS1 coding structure.

The U-mark system provides you with the convenience to decide what to mark and when to mark it – you are in control. Since there is no specialized equipment to operate or complicated procedures and training involved, your instruments can be marked with KeyDot on a continual basis and entered onto the U-mark inventory system by anyone in your department, starting with critical instruments and expand at your own pace.

Whatever the application, KeyDot helps provide increased efficiency, accuracy and productivity in tray assembly, general instrument identification, and instrument inventory status and management. With a cost of around 25 pence per instrument, KeyDot is an easy, economical and efficient means of tracking individual surgical instruments.

HOW DOES KEYDOT WORK?

The KeyDot works like a license plate. It ‘links’ a specific instrument to a data file within your software application, allowing that instrument to be tracked throughout the complete instrument processing cycle. Instruments marked with the KeyDot are scanned using a two-dimensional barcode reader which is supplied as part of the initial order and is also capable of reading traditional linear barcodes.

KEYDOT IS ECONOMICAL

For most applications, the cost of KeyDot labels is around 25 pence per instrument and users do not need to rent, lease, or purchase any expensive specialized equipment, and as the KeyDots can be applied in a department setting there is no need to send your instruments off-site.
